Seafood bar's award-winning success
A SPECIAL award has been served up to a seafood bar in Wester Ross.
The Seafood Platter at the Kishorn Seafood Bar has been named the Best of Wester Ross, as part of a competition run by the tourism industry.
They beat off tough competition from a broad range of entrants, including manufacturers, retailers and service providers.
Also selected for special commendation were the self-guided Torridon Trail walking holiday organised by Rua Reidh Lighthouse and the Carron Pottery at Strathcarron.
Viv Rollo, of the Kishorn Seafood Bar, receives a prize of 2500 euros, and the Seafood Platter is entered into a European competition involving similar areas and businesses from Iceland, Finland and Sweden. The two highly-commended entries will also be put forward.
A delighted Viv said, "We have just celebrated 10 years of running this business in these premises. This is a great anniversary present"
Lochbroom Councillor Jean Urquhart, chair of the judging panel, was impressed by all the entries.
She said, "The entries we had were all good. But there has to be just one winner to carry the name of Wester Ross into the finals with our partners from Iceland, Finland and Sweden, and who could resist the Kishorn Seafood Platter?"
Gordon Ireland, Highland Council's tourism development manager, and another of the judges, said, "This is Wester Ross on a plate - delicious!"
Last year, the tourism and business associations of the area formed Tourism @ Wester Ross, an umbrella group to encourage more people visit Wester Ross.
